Intro

A trustworthy, reliable and honest individual with strong IT and communication skill. I have the determination to meet and exceed expectations and goals, as demonstrated in most recent employment at City University. I have demonstrated competency at a research assistant level in various sectors including higher education and health. My recent spell at the Learning Development Centre has been very enjoyable and a very satisfying experience. Before working at the LDC I attained professional development award by gaining experience through various roles including working with brain injured patients and researching human cognitive fuctionality. Also, I was recently awarded the stamp of ‘recommendation’ by a leading European recruitment agency and I was one of two candidates only to successfully complete the Adab Trust Leadership Programme. Most importantly, I possess an attitude of making practical and meaningful changes in peoples’ professional and personal lives through education and development.

Adobe Connect

I have learnt to use Adobe Connect. Adobe Connect is an online collaboration tool where users interact with audio, video and chat, and can share files and screen activities. It has many possible uses, from delivering lectures over a distance to holding private meetings or small support sessions online. The technology has various pedagogical benefits which i hope to use in my life.

Turnitin

Turnitin is a web-based application that provides a number of functions that facilitate online assignment management including collection, marking, and feedback. It is also used to check electronic assignment submissions for 'originality'. It does this by comparing the text of a submitted assignment against text from a wide range of electronic material including journals, websites, and other students’ work, including work from many UK universities.

It seems that Turnitin is most commonly used to assist in the detection academic misconduct (such as plagiarism or collusion) in an assignment after it's been submitted. Turnitin can also be used formatively to help students learn about the importance of good academic practices and good referencing.

Classroom clickers

Classroom Clickers are also known as Personal Response Systems, Electronic or Audience Voting Systems, Classroom Communication Systems, or sometimes the 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?' technology. Classroom Clickers provide a fun way to encourage active participation from your audience, gather feedback and easily gauge group-wide understanding.

Students respond to questions posed during a PowerPoint presentation by pressing a button on their clicker. The responses are then detected wirelessly by a special receiver which is connected to the presenter's computer. Responses are instantly compiled by the computer and displayed within the PowerPoint presentation.

Podcasting

Podcasting is the mechanism by which recorded audio or video files (known as podcasts) are sent through the Internet to an audience of subscribers.

Podcasting is analogous to that of traditional magazine subscription, where the magazine is the podcast. You subscribe to the magazine once, and then you automatically receive new issues on your doorstep at set intervals, e.g. every fortnight. Podcast collectors (such as iTunes) are the digital equivalent of the doorstep, and the new content may be automatically copied across to a portable media device such as an mp3 player for consumption on the move. The benefit to the audience is essentially convenience -they do not have to keep checking for new issues (or new episodes of the podcast) by manually accessing a website as subscription makes this process automatic.

Video making and Video editing with Final Cut Pro

I have completed my training in Video making and editing, amounting to 7 intensive days of learning.

The video making workshop run over two consecutive days and consisted of instructor-led training and a supported practical task. The course is geared towards beginners or those who are looking to update their knowledge of digital production techniques.

It gave me a solid foundation in digital media, which is highly transferable and helped me gain an overview of planning, filming, and editing a video project, from start to finish.

The first day of the workshop introduced me to digital video and camera operation, filming tips such as framing of shots, types of shots (lectures, program making, interviews etc.), choice of microphone, and lighting techniques. We were then given a video assignment to work on in a group, and the second day concentrated on editing the first day's footage into a complete programme, using Final Cut Pro.

The weeks before the video making course i had completed a video editing course, which i have written about in my achievements.

The Final Cut Pro course leads towards a Pro End-User certificate - an officially-recognised qualification that is evidence that the person has reached a level of skill and competence suitable for work in the industry.

The course was a five-day hands-on training course and introduced me to the primary feature set and basic interface of Final Cut Pro. In this course I learned to perform basic editing functions while familiarising myself with the user interface. Topics include basic setup, adjusting and customising preferences and settings, capturing video and audio, various editing and trimming techniques, audio editing, finishing and final output.
